Direct models (1D STARFiSh and 3D CFD) and comparison of solutions

Inverse solver minimizes the discrepancy between the measurement and direct simulation results treating the Young moduli as decision variables.

Our priority in this phase of project is development of reliable direct models of the blood flow in distensible arties by:

  • 1D model pressure wave propagation in a deformable tube similar to that implemented in STARFiSh code
    • 1D model blood will be treated as a Newtonian fluid. The wall is a thin, incompressible, homogeneous, isotropic elastic membrane.
  • 3D FSI model implemented in ANSYS-FLUENT using necessary User Defined Functions
    • 3D FSI model solves the full Navier Stokes equations and treats blood as a non-Newtonian fluid using the Careou model. The wall is treated as an anisotropic linear elastic material with different longitudinal and circumferential Young moduli.

Delivery:

Development of two FSI running models.
